Halloween

This year for Halloween we did 3 major activities. We had Trunk or Treat at church the Saturday before, trick or treating in our neighborhood on Halloween, and then we went to a friends house and trick or treated in her town home community.

Trunk or Treat is an activity at church where we have a chili cook off and games for the kids in the gym and then the kids get to trick or treat at all the trunks in the parking lot. This year it was snowing that night so we ended up having the kids trick or treat in one of the hallways in the church. It was a little chaotic, but worked out in the end. I even won runner up for best overall chili. I didn't get to take a lot of pictures because I was running around too much, but here are a few.

Here is Lily and her best bud Maddie. These two girls like to do everything together. Maddie is 2 months younger than Lily, but Maddie is at least 2 inches taller. Lily is such a peanut. Lily knows she's older though, and always follows Maddie around calling her "baby" and tries to do things for her. We were at the park today and Lily stood at the bottom of the slide urging Maddie to come down with her arms outstretched saying, "catch baby".

For our candy getting experience Sean had the great idea of having 3 boxes for the kids to reach in and try to get a prize. This girl looks like she stuck her hand the box that contained cold, wet, spaghetti noodles with containers of playdough. (Another box had jello with spider rings and the other was a bucket of candy.)

On Halloween we decided to get an early start because we live on a rural road and while there aren't a ton of cars they drive FAST. Here are Matthew and Sara with their pumpkins.

My kids are going to have a very skewed sense of what Halloween entails. In my neighborhood we went to just 10 houses because they are all spread out so much and on the rural road. Because we are the only kids these houses see each neighbor invites us in for a little chat and gives each kid a little party bag full of goodies. One neighbor gave each kid a whole bucket full of full sized candy bars. Matthew is very proud of his 2 buckets. I had arranged to go to a friend's town home community after we did the houses around us because I didn't expect them to get much. They received more candy from those 10 houses than they did going to countless town homes.

Lily loved running from house to house trying to keep up with the big kids and by the end of the night could say "Happy Halloween!"
